Aloha!

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Hawaii Section cordially invites you to participate in the 20th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament in Honor of Steve Fong which will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at the Pearl Country Club.  Similar to what we’ve done in the past, this year’s tournament proceeds will be donated to the University of Hawaii ASCE Student Chapter to assist in their efforts to raise awareness and introduce more students to the engineering profession.  The ASCE Hawaii Section is honored to host this fundraising tournament in support of the growth and development of future engineers.

The ASCE Hawaii Section, along with the ASCE Student Chapter, is truly grateful to our participants for the tremendous support and camaraderie experienced in previous tournaments.  We kindly seek your continued support and assistance in ensuring this year’s tournament is just as successful!

You can help by entering a corporate sponsored team or gathering a few friends to make a team to support.  We also welcome any donations for the golf event: monetary gifts, merchandise, and/or gift certificates for team prizes, etc.  All donations, excluding the value of any services/benefits received, are tax deductible. The registration/donation form is attached.

Your earliest registration would be greatly appreciated (early registration closes July 7, 2023).  The deadline to register for the tournament is on July 21, 2023.  Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to call Ms. Lori Fong at (808) 955-4441 or Ms. Emi Kiyoi at (808)
382-6717.

Please note that an inherent risk of exposure to Covid-19 exists anywhere other people are present, and even precautionary measures such as masking and social distancing cannot completely eliminate this risk.  Any person who chooses to participate in any in-person activity assumes all risks arising from that decision.  All attendees must agree to comply with all procedures described herein, as well as any other safety protocols put in place by the venue or any other applicable authorities, including the State and City protocols at that time.

Thank you for your time and consideration and we look forward to seeing you there!

Mahalo,

 Highlights from our 2021 tournament

Our 18th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament in Honor of Steve Fong was held on Friday August 6, 2021 at Pearl Country Club with sixty (60) three-man teams participating, our largest turnout ever!  With a shotgun start, play still took 6+ hours!

All players went home with golf balls, toilet paper, and a one month membership to the Art of Fitness, in addition the top 13 teams received prizes which included:  Callaway/Titleist/Taylormade wedges, golf bags, Golf Buddy GPS’s, Oakley sunglasses, Foodland gift cards, and a whole lot more.  The lucky ones to win On/Off the Green prizes were awarded either a round of golf at Pearl CC or Sun Mountain golf umbrellas.

Some interesting stats from this year’s tournament:
• Low gross score (53) placed 6th overall for net scores
• All top 13 teams had net scores in the 40’s (string game!)
• Highest gross score was 88
• $2,180 in donations was grossed from the 1st Hole Tee Shot Advancement, which was manned by David and Kyle with the Student

   Chapter. AMAZING!

We had about two dozen volunteers at the tournament including a number of UH ASCE Student Chapter members.  We hope those of you that played were able to engage with some of the students!

THANK YOU to the companies and individuals who supported this tournament, the proceeds of which gets donated to our Student Chapter to assist in their efforts to raise awareness and introduce more students to the Civil Engineering profession. Also a BIG MAHALO to Yogi Kwong Engineers who donated ono bentos from K's Bento in Waipahu and Bonded Materials who donate Samurai ice cream cups!

A complete list of our sponsors is below.

With COVID-19, the last year and a half has been different, challenging, difficult - all of the above?  Last year we had to cancel our tournament for the first time ever.  But despite this, our golf tournament committee worked overtime to ensure that this year we could host a SAFE and FUN tournament and they SUCCEEDED!

The ASCE Hawaii Section would like to thank our committee members, who’s dedication and tireless efforts have made our golf tournament so successful year after year.  It’s amazing to note that most of our committee members have been doing this for more than a decade!  Please reach out and thank them when you have the chance!
