ASCE/COPRI Dinner Meeting
PLEASE RSVP BY THURSDAY, MAY 15, 2025.
May 22, 2025
The Edge (31 North Pauahi Street, Honolulu, HI 96817)
Program: Iroquois Point Beach: Past and Present
Speaker: Scott Sullivan, Sea Engineering, Inc.
Description: A recent Star-Advertiser front page headline said “Beaches Eroding, Shoreline Sinking”, and a recent UH study states that sea level rise impacts on Hawaii’s sandy shoreline may happen faster than previously expected. All sounding pretty dire! Improving beaches to help them better adapt to rising sea levels is one alternative for adapting to changes and increasing the shorelines resiliency. The Iroquois Point Beach Nourishment and Stabilization Project, completed in 2013 and monitored for the following 10 years, illustrates the possibility and benefits of beach improvement as a shoreline adaptation methodology. Scott Sullivan, original founder and Sr. Ocean Engineer of Sea Engineering, Inc., will talk about the design, construction, and performance of Hawaii’s largest beach improvement project.
