2026 ASCE WALTER LUM SCHOLARSHIP


DONOR & FUNDING:  American Society of Civil Engineers Hawaii Section Walter Lum Scholarship Endowment Fund
                                                      
PURPOSE: This Scholarship is to assist students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaii.
                                             
NUMBER & AMOUNT OF AWARDS: Up to two awards in the amount of up to $3,000 each. The ASCE Hawaii Section Scholarship Committee may choose to increase the number of awards granted if they deem there are more than two worthy applicants AND funds are available.


NOTIFICATION: The ASCE Hawaii Section Scholarship Committee will notify recipients of their selection by Friday, April 17, 2026, and will present the award at the April 2026 joint dinner meeting with the student chapter to be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  1. Student enrolled in the College of Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, University of Hawaii at Manoa
  2. Junior or Senior undergraduate class status, or graduate class status for the 2026 Spring Semester.
  3. Academic Merit
  4. Substantial preference given to active University of Hawaii at Manoa ASCE Student Chapter members.
  5. Preference to students with demonstrated financial need, such as but not limited to student loan(s), without other substantial financial assistance.
  6. Effectiveness of personal statement

PROOF OF ENROLLMENT:  Recipients must provide proof of enrollment (receipt for 2026 Spring semester) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

RENEWAL:  The scholarships are awarded annually.  All applicants must submit a completed scholarship application. 
 
HOW TO APPLY & DEADLINE:  Applications may be downloaded here.  Completed applications must be RECEIVED at the e-mail address listed below by Monday April 6, 2026 along with proof of enrollment (receipt for 2026 Spring Semester).
